Jewellery Care Guide
Simple care tips to keep your Shreehari jewellery looking beautiful for longer.
Gold-plated jewellery can look stunning for a long time, but it needs a little more care than solid gold. The plating is a thin layer placed over a base metal, so the way you wear, store, and clean your jewellery plays an important role in maintaining its shine and finish.
Here's how to get the most out of your Shreehari pieces.
Keep It Away From Chemicals
Gold plating does not react well with moisture and chemicals. Remove your jewellery before showering, swimming, or exercising. Sweat, chlorine, and salt water can speed up wear on the plated surface.
Perfume, hairspray, lotion, and sanitiser can also affect the plating. A simple rule: put your jewellery on last after getting ready, and remove it first when you return home.
Store Each Piece Separately
Keeping multiple jewellery pieces together can cause scratches, especially on plated surfaces. Store each item in its own soft pouch or a separate compartment away from direct sunlight and humidity.
If you live in a humid area, placing a small silica gel packet inside your jewellery box can help absorb moisture and reduce tarnishing.
Clean It Gently, Not Often
Gold-plated jewellery does not need frequent cleaning. Clean it only when needed to remove dust or everyday build-up.
- Wipe your jewellery with a soft, dry cloth after wearing.
- If required, use a slightly damp cloth—never soak the jewellery in water.
- Avoid jewellery cleaners, baking soda, and abrasive products as they can remove plating faster.
Remove Jewellery Before Physical Activity
Gold plating is more delicate than solid gold and can be affected by friction and impact. Remove rings and bracelets before cleaning, gardening, working out, or activities where your jewellery may repeatedly hit surfaces.
Know What's Normal Wear
Some fading over time is normal with plated jewellery. Areas that experience more friction, such as the inside of a ring or the back of an earring, may show wear earlier.
