Gold-plated jewellery can look stunning for a long time, but it needs a little more care than solid gold. The plating is a thin layer placed over a base metal, so the way you wear, store, and clean your jewellery plays an important role in maintaining its shine and finish.

Keep It Away From Chemicals

Gold plating does not react well with moisture and chemicals. Remove your jewellery before showering, swimming, or exercising. Sweat, chlorine, and salt water can speed up wear on the plated surface.

Perfume, hairspray, lotion, and sanitiser can also affect the plating. A simple rule: put your jewellery on last after getting ready, and remove it first when you return home.

Store Each Piece Separately

Keeping multiple jewellery pieces together can cause scratches, especially on plated surfaces. Store each item in its own soft pouch or a separate compartment away from direct sunlight and humidity.
